Whiskey is definitely your go-to-alcohol for more fancy appeal. But yea as Intel mentioned, it ultimately depends on brand.

Tequila hilariously under represented in poll results so far. Must be from the unwashed masses who can’t hold their tequila.

Yamazaki. I've been to the brewery and am not surprised it has exploded in popularity worldwide.
Quality and brand matters more than type of alcohol
Which sizzurp are you sippin?
Just looking at liquor - Definitely whiskey in all its variants. It’s a classy alcohol and there are a lot of prestigious brands. The variety means you can never get too much. Tequila I’d put second, as long as you’re getting the good stuff. Vodka middle of the road. Rum is at the bottom.
Yamazaki 25 and Pappy van Winkle
I'm not sure I understand the question. Are you asking which alcohol to give a new grad as a gift? Or are you asking which alcohol you should stock in your bar (as a new grad) so that people think you have good taste? If the former, alcohol is a poor graduation gift. If the latter, don't place so much value on what others think of you. Try different things to find what you like and stock that. I've had great $50 bottles of whiskey, and OK $2000 bottles. Older doesn't mean better, it just means rarer (and more expensive). In general, you will probably be just as happy with a 12-18 year old scotch as you will with a 35 year old bottle, and you will spend a lot less.

Brand would be a better poll.
