The pro's kind are pretty well known, but what's stopping you from taking a remote role?

No human contact. It’s nice for awhile but when you realize that you never grab lunch with anyone but yourself and happy hour was three years ago you start to feel isolated.

Harder to get promotions; out of sight out of mind.

When you lose motivation good luck finding it again.

Easy to find yourself getting distracted by every little thing.

Cons: lunch and dinner feels the same since you are in the same house. Weekday and weekend feels the same. Work hours and non work hours start to blur and feels the same. You can be inside your own bedroom and never step out to see the sun for 1 week.

I used to do at least 10,000 steps a day when working in office. Now my iPhone says I do less then 1,000 at home. So unless I force myself to the gym or go walking, my body is pretty unhealthy.

Working from home once or twice a week is very ideal. It's the perfect middle ground and I tend to be the most productive this way.

Reduced visibility. Slower pace of promotion.

Remote is amazing. Once you figure out how to make it work, you wouldn't want to go back.

I just joined a team at amazon where I’ll be the only remote person. I know it’ll be harder to maintain relationships and get the impactful work, but I also know that advocating for yourself becomes even more important.

I love working remote and have had a couple promotions. I don’t know if I’d ever want to go back to an office. I have a sit to stand desk and a treadmill I roll under it so I can get some steps in 😊

Before you learn about an opportunity it gets taken because someone told someone about it and not you. Not everything can be slacked, emailed.

Are there well known companies that offer remote software jobs? I was exploring if I can travel around the globe for couple of years while still working. At cisco, don't find much.

Normally companies look to hire remote when they cant find talent locally. I can’t think of an employer hiring remotely so you can travel the globe. You could look into short duration contract work.
