What can I do if my manager is psychotic?

Have a manager who is literally psychotic. She goes into fits and rages and says terrible things about a lot of people she works with. She gives my team tons of work and calls us at random hours (early morning, late night). She is verbally abusive and tells me my work is “absolute shit.” What actions can I take and what rights do I have? For personal reasons I can’t easily leave the company right now.

You have gotta move. Either out of the company or a different team

Start recording

You can't record someone else without their consent in many jurisdictions.

This is tricky - be careful with this, but clear paper trail is smart.

Misogyny at its finest

People need a good f**k to stay sane. Applicable to any gender. It's not misogyny.

Oh Christ this is spot on

Is there any way that I can get her fired? For personal reasons I’d prefer to stay at the company and it’s hard to move teams right now.

Setup a 1:1 with your skip level

If she is bullying you or creating a toxic work environment for you, you should report to HR and have them sort it out. You probably have taken some mandatory anti-harassment training assigned to you by Uber, they teach you how to deal with this kind of circumstance.

Good idea about not answering. Or answer, and "accidentally" hang up right away a couple times, get her good and angry then let it go to voicemail. Then save the voicemail to use

stop working for a piece of shit

Start making a paper trail.

This is a HR issue. You need to report this for your sake and for the sake of your team.

Oh ya that can't backfire

It depends on the company culture. If you feel it’s not worth the fight or if you think there’d be repercussions, you have a choice QUIT. Keeping quiet only makes things worse for you and entire company. Anyone remember Susan Fowler Uber whistleblower? You can’t inspire change if you keep quiet like as though the problem doesn’t exist. Managers who behave like what OP is describing need to be FIRED FAST before they make entire company toxic.
