Preferably in the Seattle area... please help. I am dying. Someone told me I should apply to Cisco tier companies since I can't get into FAANG. I just want a normal job, not bodyshop craziness. I'm also American.

Good for you. With time, you will learn and understand that it is not the company, but what you do makes your path. On the other hand, great company in my mind is that, which has basic impact in human life. In that respect, Facebook does not come close to Amazon, rather it has overall negative impact. Nothing will change in day to day life, if Facebook vanishes tomorrow.

I don't have the saintly views of the other person here but just in terms of pure technology, I feel Google, Microsoft, Apple and some parts of Amazon, Facebook have deep technical innovations others don't have. (Nvidia, Intel and the likes too..though people don't consider them cool)

Uber is faking - it’s likely lower than tier 3

This is my first job out of college. Being inexperienced and ignorant, I stuck around for a long time hoping things would one day get better. They never did, and going into technical interviews unprepared revealed how weak of an engineer I was. Working on a legacy system for 3 years doing nothing but bug fixes taught me absolutely no new technologies, so I have no marketable skills that can easily get me a new job. I know leetcode is a meme, but grinding it is basically the only way I think I can get into a new company.

Yes, I used to work in Cisco, and I got out of it after 1+ years of grinding leetcode.

Do whatever it takes to leave. Only good thing about HP is that expectations are so low that you could easily leetcode 3+ hours a day without burning out. You will be glad you did.

Because I applied and didn't get so much as a phone call back. Actually did interview with FB but didn't pass phone screen. Also, am an "experienced" hire but my experience was in mechanical engineering not tech/coding. Completed a data science bootcamp.

There are divisions in Apple and Google where mechanical engineers are highly sought for - have you tried there? What about Tesla?

Yes, I know someone in Google X who's a mech E there. I'm not that good. Apple I might try applying, if they have any spots in Seattle. Don't want to work at Tesla, sounds like it'd be a worse WLB than infosys.

Lol @ Snap above Cisco...Pinterest, Zillow. You guys are literally insane.

    • Zillow Group hybiy
Snap might be going down, but engineers are highly desirable.

For pinterest,Zillow both are good companies with good engineers, so think its accurate

I frankly wouldn't put nvidia in tier 2 should be along with Cisco, cant expect stock to grow so rapidly again and linkedin should be grouped with Microsoft

Cisco is absolutely lower tier than any startup.

In terms of comp, sure - Cisco isn’t a dying company, though. We’re growing and gaining market share back. Stock doubled in a year, too.
