Currently in my last year of college with a very light course load. I Just finished recruiting and will be working full time starting March 2020(I graduate in December). I have travel plans lined up after graduating but wonder what I can do for the next three months to make the best out of the free time I got? I’ve had enough with the leetcode grind so definitely not going back to that. I’m just reading CLRS for fun now but feel like there’s other stuff I could be doing :/
Grow thick skin. Real world job is much more than just technical expertise. Learn to work with others. Learn to let go and compromise sometimes even when u think u have the best solution. Try not to be the one who’s always right.
Sound advice but this is a bit beyond a fresh grad. But definitely keep these things in mind ...
Who tf reads CLRS for fun? lmao Just use the time to chill.
Get as much sleep and relax as much as you can before your first day.
What area are you trying to work in? go through tech tutorials in those areas. Learn some new languages. Learn a new stack. Go lower level. Go higher level. Even if you go to a big tech company that rolls their own (X framework), you’ll find parallels between the open sourced versions of software that you’ll be working in. Alternatively, relax and become the chillest version of yourself that you can be... you’re probably already enough technically. Focus on chilling, your social life, and your health. They matter professionally. If you aren’t taking care of yourself, you’ll burn out and turn into an existential crisis.
Wear pants. But on a more constructive note, contribute to some open source software, preferably to code bases you’ve never seen before. Should help you prepare for what’s to come, reading a lot of other people’s code ... You can make some money too, look for open bounties
