What does a career path for a high-level frontend developer look like? Are there any in principal+ level, and what do they do? What do they get recognized for and what kind of responsibilities do they take on as they rise up in levels? It must be more than just writing apps? Edit: To give a bit of context, I've been working as a full stack developer for 3+ years. More and more Im realizing that I don't enjoy doing the complex work of back end, but I really enjoy UI+product design+designing overall systems, and I'm being recognized for it. I want to design but specialize in frontend work at the same time because I want to be able to get the products out fast. Wanting to design but not do the complex work seems whiny, but arent there people who do that legitimately? (if youre good at design, but implementing tbe complexitiy isn’t your strength/what you enjoy, isnt it more efficient to have the implemetation be up to someone else?) I feel like there isnt really a path for me to say 'i want to specialize in frontend work' and at the same time rise in levels. The only way I see is keep doing the work and do frontend on my own time, but I really want my passion to be my work rather than side studies, hence my question!
Most continue to be developers or become managers managing other developers. They usually don't know backend or middleware which is a bummer for their careers
Good frontend developers at that level are good enough with backend as well. They just specialized in another, complex part of the stack.
There are high level front-end developers?
I guess that's part of the question :)
Multiple tracks: Architecture, principal, etc. Mostly makes sense at mid to large companies where front-end is valued UI Platform, Infrastructure, etc. Building tools and services Management Consulting Backend BK Facebook and work for React or something similar
Someone at eBay just became a fellow VP. That’s the highest any IC contributor can go in eBay.
Look up Dave Shariff
Guessing they move to the backend?
