3 yoe software engineer at Facebook. I have a hard time filling the 30 minute weekly 1:1 with my manager. Generally spend the first 10-15 mins syncing up on projects I'm working on and maybe what's coming next and all that. Occasionally stuff comes up (PTO, performance reviews, changes in the company, etc) but usually outside of project updates I don't know what I should be talking about with my manager. I'm generally happy with my job and I've had great performance reviews so far, but I feel like my manager expects more. At the end of my last 1:1 my manager suggested I think of thinks to talk about for our next one, but I don't know what he's expecting.
Change your weekly 1:1 to bi-weekly
My previous manager took this personally....and would want to leave the weekly on the calendar
Complain about stuff
Dude, I just got my perf degraded mostly because of this. Apparently you don't bring complaints and issues but solutions to these meetings. In my eyes that pretty much deprecated the need for them (if I have a solution I don't need to talk about the problem)

Ask him about the challenges he is facing and how you can help him further.
Feel free to end up early. I have a lot of 30 minute meetings end up being 10 minutes or so. As long as we get things aligned, why waste time
Yes. I've never had a manager complain about having time freed up so we can resume getting things done.
Career growth, improvements in product, mentor ship, opportunities outside of current role are some of the things to talk about
Also your current manger is a dumbo if he can’t guide you to things to talk about. Lastly, if your talking status in 1:1 it’s a complete waste of time
It really should be a time when you talk with your manager about how you plan to to grow on your career. Not status reporting...
