It's rather incredible that this 77 cents "on average" number gets repeated without question. After adjusting for job family and hours worked, the gap is between 3-5%. That percentage could be for a variety of reasons - one of which is discrimination, but also due to women being less disagreeable and less aggressive negotiators. Until we can get past empty virtue signaling and having an objective debate on the gap, this whole idea is useless.
