I see a lot of posts about larger companies recruiting for leadership positions directly from MBA program. While the MBA program is often seen as worthless especially here in Blind, would you consider it if there was a reasonable chance for senior positions. Do you think leadership positions are better than being a lowly techie or even an engineering manager? And is there a reasonable chance of Senior positions for a swe pursuing an MBA?
Define leadership position.
That usually refer to director and above
Leadership is just one component of a MBA. You may want to see if there any good leadership certification courses that focus on experiential learning. If you want to stay within engineering, I’m not sure how courses such as accounting or finance which are taught in MBA would be useful.
MBAs from recognized programs are very beneficial and can definitely be leveraged to put yourself a fee rungs higher on the ladder than those without. That being said, don’t bother getting an MBA from a no name program, you’ll make more progress in pursuit of your career by staying in your day job. Last point, getting an MBA is not cheap so you better be certain that you are going to want to pursue using it once you finish...an MBA isn’t gonna help that much if you want to be principal engineer one day and definitely isn’t worth the price tag if that is your end game.
What if one is already in a director role , would MBA ( part time from top 5 school ) help in getting into senior VP and C Suite ?
Im assuming you are a director of engg. I think it depends on the size of the company you are targeting. Smaller firms may consider you for CTO roles even without a MBA as long as you have sufficient experience. COO or CEO roles would require experience beyond engineering even at smaller firms even if you get a MBA. SVP in engg is a possibility even without MBA I feel. You can look st leadership certifications.
Thank you. What leadership certifications should I look into ?

A techie with no MBA vs. a techie with an MBA. If you were selecting one or the other for a non technical managerial role, who would you prefer is a leader in the organization? The downside is opportunity cost, unless you do an exec MBA sponsored by your company
