https://www.theverge.com/2019/7/22/20703578/microsoft-openai-investment-partnership-1-billion-azure-artificial-general-intelligence-agi Is it an acquisition? Is Microsoft just a client now?
I was once at a company where Oracle invested $10m with one of the conditions being that we spend $5m on Oracle. It was set up in a way that immediately after the $10m was invested, $5m of it was converted to Oracle credits. I imagine this is similar. Microsoft is “investing” $1B, but I imagine a good portion of that is effectively Azure credits. Not hard cash.
100% this ^^
Hmmm interesting...
Everyone's being paid millions... This will only contribute to that
Yeah why did we pay $1 bil and not buy openAI outright? Google paid $400mil for deepmind. We could have used openAI as our counter...
They're worth a lot more... Elon made it and passed it on to Altman, with the goal of being open... This openai. Pretty sure Microsoft wouldn't allow everything to be so open anymore and many in the research community would be mad.
