Let say currently E5. How many years of experience does it need to get a E7 offer (or promotion)? What is the compensation like at FANNG and other companies? Is there a difference in compensation for E7 and D1 track (director)? I heard some people got $2M including 1.2M of RSU. That’s insane... https://www.levels.fyi/comp.html
Gosh, it’s just plain wrong starting from E5. Use the data here https://www.teamblind.com/article/google-engineer---total-compensation-in-us---ultimate-post-jYcrij5X It’s same for FB.
The data shows Amazon L4 as 190k and Google T3 as 235k. Unless these are maximums, these being mean/median are inaccurate
its comon for peope that join 2014/15/16
So other than begging and kneeing until end of the world, what elsr can we do lol. Is my friend’s friend telling the truth about this $2M tc??
Lubes ?
D1 is level 8 not 7. Nothing is about yoe to get promoted, it's what you do. Only foolish places would give a person promotions because of arbitrary yoe.
So usually people say E6 is a ceiling for most. What would you say the most important of work accomplishment required to get to E7? Work on a very complex project? Like the chance of a general swe at facebook vs Jeff Dean level....? Or a better way to phrase it: are there teams have better chance of becoming E6+ quicker? Client solution vs PE vs Infra vs ML vs Security.
No clue, not eng. General advise, find a mentor at that level to help guide you. Not every team enables the type of impact expected at those levels. Your job is to have conversations with the leaders of those teams to see if it is possible.
It’s more about communication and forward thinking/vision at that level. E6 is as high as you can get without moving the industry itself forward
well worn knee pads
🤣
As someone at this level, you are not wrong 😕
