Based on what I’ve been seeing on Blind, I feel as if those who aren’t in FANG spend their time trying to get into FANG or end up in a dead end job. I’ve had 3 internships so far and I’m nearing graduation now.

I’ve done lots of leetcode and just had my Google onsite, for which I feel 60% confident I’ll be able to convert into an offer (application reached HC). My friends have told me that I have a pretty stacked resume and I’ve worked hard over the past few years, but I feel like going to a non-fang will be identical to my experience going to a non-target school: I’ll be looked down upon by everyone else.

For those in non top-tier companies (not fang and not Lyft, LinkedIn, Uber, etc) do you feel like you’re looked down upon by others (esp “top tier”? Are you happy?

Stop worrying too much about perception
All FANG is, well is just that.
Great founders went out and started plenty of other wonderful and impactful companies where work is more interesting than fang

There’s so much more to life than what you’re thinking about right now. You’ll be happier when you free yourself from the external validation you think FANG would bring you

That’s so not true for Indians,
Atleast for Indians while getting arrange married, whether you are in a FANG or not does matter heavily.

When you say you work for FB or G or A , it builds a certain credibility around you as opposed to working for a no name company.

So yeah, FANG does matter ! Atleast in the short run

Oh when you put it that way it makes perfect sense. Why work for the wrong goals and companies when you can also get married for the wrong reasons!

What you are talking is idealistic, doesn’t work that way in the real world. In the end it comes down to your paycheck.

Bro , we are taking about arranged marriage setting here where you get a window of couple of hours to talk to your bride to be.

Girls won’t even consider you if u don’t have an h1b.

Wtf. Forget about prestige. You are just a TC slave. Don’t listen to those Amazon Indians. Get a life.

I enjoy my job. I have a nice manager and I’m working on an interesting project. Even though people here talk shit about Oracle I’m still glad I declined an offer from FB when I graduated.

Now FB stock is fucked up and I’m still having my 125/260/40 package with 0.5 yoe.

Go shop around and focus on project/team instead.

Experience is experience. Focus on landing something you’ll love doing and grow while you’re doing it.

Not everyone at FANG started at FANG; and not everyone at FANG will stay at FANG.

Short answer: there are fulfilling careers outside of FANG.

“I work at a fang company” is basically “I work for amazon”

Because hiring bar at amazon is incredibly low, especially for new grad. Googler will just say I work for google.
There are too many unskilled entry level employees at amazon, mostly Indians. They use the term FANG all the time and believe they are superior to non fang people.

I never would have gotten accepted by a "top tier" company straight out of college. My life was wonderful. Don't worry so much about what others think.

OP, find your own path to happiness.
Even if you make it to (whatever you consider is) the top of the mountain, there will still be plenty of people who will look down on you.
    Haters gonna hate.
Find what you love and pursue it.

I chose to go to a “non top tier” company out of college because I liked the team. Now I’m joining a “top tier” company because I like the team.

You’ll only get looked down on if you have the mentality that FANG is superior. It’s not. It’s just a well paying job at certain companies. And there are plenty of those at other companies especially after you are no longer a new grad.

OP you're a poor soul who has his priorities in life all screwed up. You seeks validation from working at a company that sees if you can leetcode. Working at Google won't make you happy. It's a superficial goal, same as making another 50k somewhere else.

I think FANG could be overrated at times My tech lead had 3 yoe and turned down FANG offers to take another tech company. He had non-FANG offers of like 280k TC. FAANG is not the only way
