What is a typical sde3 salary at Amazon. Especially if a person is transferring from India to Seattle on L1.

Bruh chances of getting PIPed and going back home are not worth the Benjamin’s

Amazon goldfish_ Sep 15, 2019

Great point. Most of them don't even think about it before it happens to them. But there are lot of Indian managers there protecting indian SDEs by blaming others and PIPing

Amazon scalable Sep 15, 2019

Racism? Or a genuine difference in performance and expectations (and a lowered promo bar in India)?

Amazon IFdY18 Sep 15, 2019

SDE 1 is well over 100k USD so you’re probably looking closer to 200k for SDE 3

Amazon ISNFBD Sep 15, 2019

The SDE3 band is something like 250k-378k. I have heard on Blind that for international transfers they put you at the same percentile of the band as you were previously. So if you were p50 for SDE3s in your previous country, you would be p50, or $314 in Seattle.

p50 != avg

Amazon ISNFBD Sep 15, 2019

Ah yeah good point. I don’t know what the actual percentiles are.

SDE3 bar in India is low. Probably equivalent to 4.5 or 5 in Seattle. SDE2s in India also do not make the cut. I know cases of these folks getting PIP'd within a few months of transferring to HQ. Anyway, the range is around 250 - 375. Most guys I know who transferred, got an Indian manager who could protect them, otherwise they were toast.

Any internal promoted sde3 in Seattle should be at a min of 230k comp, most cases it should be 250k. since you are making an international transfer they might offer you little bit less as they have a better bargaining position. But based on the performance your manager will adjust the pay in next April or after that.

Given that SDE3 range can go upto 378K, in general how long does it take for transferred employee to reach median range?

Amazon CapBeer Sep 15, 2019

Don’t bother about negative comment, every org/team is different. I will definitely recommend you to take the offer. There are multiple internal transfer opportunities available as well if things don’t pan out as you have planned.
