What is phone screen bar @ Snap?

So, had 2 phone screens with Snap. First one came mixed, requested second one. Had second one and got rejected. What is the bar to pass phone screen @ Snap? In my first phone screen solved the problem, though had a bug, interviewer pointed out. It was not a huge bug, but important. LC medium level, I would say. In second phone screen, identified the solution quickly, implemented it. On initial look, seemed fine so decided to run it. Wrong output, looked into it and tried to fix. My second fix worked out (found myself). So no more issues in code, discussed complexity correctly, testing approaches. It should all be good. But no rejected. Now confused, what is the bar to pass. Clarified with interviewer how many coding questions there will be in the beginning of coding. First interviewer told me that it is ok to run code through Hackerank, they won’t penalize me for that. Friends from Snapchat, please help.

Maybe they wanted you to get it right the first time

Maybe. But there is nothing wrong as long as you fix it quickly and yourself.

It's not necessarily your solution, maybe they didn't like the way you communicate. There's nothing special about these screens at Snap. Chin up and try elsewhere.

Maybe. However, my first screen feedback said that I had good communication. Is it discouraged to debug in Hackerank? What is the general consensus there at Snap?

For me, writing clean & readable code is at least as important as getting a working solution.

Are you at Snap?

No, but I don’t see why snap would be different

One of the purpose for the phone interview is to determine if you would do well or not during onsite.

Amazon lostsde OP Apr 30, 2019

Yeah I get that. So, getting the solution right, but with minor bug (but quickly fixed) says that I would fail the onsite?

No one here can give you the answer to that since we weren't in the interview. It's good to reflect but don't dwell on it and move on

Similar experience. Leetcode hiring bar at pre and post IPO companies is incredibly high. Basically you have no chance of passing if you didn’t solve the problem before. Interviewers expect you have practiced the problem for multiple times before. In that regard, solving many leetcode is also not enough. Basically you gotta switch to a job where you can devote many hours for solving leetcode and people don’t care about you.

It seems Microsoft doesn’t do much leetcode. Interviewed recently, didn’t get any leetcode. Everything was custom made. Overall, impression was good of MS.

Microsoft has many experienced engineers who can come up with a reasonable problems and expectation. Many long timers will focus on communication and thought process than providing just the answer. Contrary to what many people bad mouth about, Microsoft has better people than most of the companies in my opinion.
