Microsoft has a massive Indian population and almost all Indians will tell you that Satya Nadella is "kicking ass". But I fail to see why. Let's see positives. Today MS is posting lot of profits (which they did even under Steve Balmer). And yes there is lot of positive press (acquired Github, Minecraft, many AI companies, adopted Linux and SJW cause alignment). But if you look at Azure despite being profitable there is not a single distinct feature which MS innovated. Everything is a catchup from AWS. Very ironically the previous maligned CEOs failed trying to do something new and bold. I agree that office 365 is a great service and has massive potential but that's hardly Nadella's brain child. So what is his legacy other than positive press and social causes? What product or service did he help create? (Ex: iwatch didn't exist under jobs, neither did face id).
He is not Steve Ballmer. That should be enough.
Surface is pretty cool
He doesn't even go to the launch of surface. He loves press and surface doesn't get much press
His biggest achievement is giving up Microsofts legacy of windows and the ego that came with it. The market changed and most people want linux, cloud and open source. That's been signficant
That's not a CEO level achievement. TimCook cooked changes the way people use iPhone... under Nadella people stopped using Windows while he basks in the good press of Github acquisition
They still suck. They have a lot to catch up with SAP though but with determination they will suck more soon
Culture change
CEO are answerable to investors. Look at the stock performance.
That's the stupidest answer ever.
^ found the engineer who knows dick about corporations To actually answer your question OP Satya led the integration of great plains. He was wildly successful in STB. He has insanely more charisma than most engineers and an MBA from the top program, implying he understands something about business. Something you completely lack.
Op- letโs get to the bottom of this. Who do you hate? Indians or Nadela?
Good artists innovate , great artists copy
As the CEO of a public company, he doesnโt get evaluated on legacies, innovation or creation. He gets evaluated on increasing shareholder value (wealth) with the resources the board tells him he can have. And heโs delivered formidable results. The more nuanced point is, shareholder value is correlated heavily with the aggregate perception of the market of your company. Heโs been able to take the image of a failing behemoth and turn it into the image of a growing company. This is no small achievement. If you want to understand why people think heโs a good CEO, I would start by re-evaluating your success criteria.
