What is your company’s productivity metric for SWEs?

For us, it’s Github (Enterprise) contributions. That counts as commits, merge commits, comments on PRs, and approval/rejections of PRs.

Not *everything* is based off that number, but it gets reported in annual reviews.

C1's metric? Whatever the managers feel like saying about you behind closed doors.

That's probably most common way. First they ask your teammates about you, behind closed doors.

This question is about metrics. Every company had politics. Yours is no different.

Politics is always the metric at the end of the day, and if you don't like it, you can always take your disagreements to the labor market :)

Yeah I was looking for unique replies beyond the obvious. Anyone could reply “our metric is politics lol” but that contributes nothing to the discussion.

      Alright, sure.

Ability to claim other's work as your own.
Ability to throw others under the bus. (managers are actually rewarded for roasting people, I've heard)
      The body count.
Number of features that you've touched and could therefore claim as your own.
      Number of blowjobs given.
How well your VP knows your name.
How much your manager likes you.
How much your coworkers like you.
Ability to run for class president of a bunch of 6th graders.
Ability to get your ass in your chair before anybody else on your team and keep it there longer than anybody else on your team.
If you're a scrum master (aka JIRA enthusiast), how hot and fresh out of college you are.
Whether or not your shit smells nice.
Whether the team/org. that you landed on is full of try-hards/rockstars that make you look bad or a bunch of pulseless morons that would be lucky to retain you.
What your manager had for breakfast and his general mood on the day of your performance review.

That was the metric for my org in Amazon retail as well. Annual reviews were like a high school cafeteria.

I think we don't have metric as such. But it depends on individual contributions, your contributions to success of others, other's contributions to your success, opinion by senior engineers. For growth it depends on your impact, budget and career stage(how many in your org are having same designation as yours).
