August, because Windows are a great way to block August of wind.

Actually, I’m pretty sure it’s 7:00am, which is way too early.

July or January is when most new headcount comes online. Company shuts down for most of July and August so that's a good time to ramp up. Bonuses are pro-rated so doesn't matter comp wise. If moving to Seattle area, may be able to get a better deal on rent in winter vs August/September when everyone moves here

Thanks for the info. Didn't know bonuses are prorated. Heard that there is a 800$ yearly allowance for Fitness related activities, does that need an employee to start before a specific start date? Also, when is the espp enrollment period?

Good point. Stayfit is only $400 if join past a certain point in the year. Has to be spent in the calendar year. HSA credit is also reduced for starting past a certain point. ESPP enrollment is quarterly and contributions are per pay period so maybe join before the start of a quarter but probably not worth optimizing for

I see. Do you know what is the start date constraint for stayfit to be fully given? Thanks for letting me know it's quarterly. At vmw it is half yearly that's why I asked.

Not 100% sure but I think stayfit cutoff is mid-calendar year (June 30)

Why would you give any weight to that $800 in your joining process or negotiations. MS benefits were great but $50-70k+ pay boost means I can afford better shoes of my choice :)

Why? True that FNG > M but that is true for almost all companies. Anything specific to avoid or be careful about when at M?

You won't get a bonus for that year. You'll be eligible for a bonus as long as you join before April 1.

Isn't the bonus prorated? The other poster here from M claims so.

Not if you join after April 1. You won't get anything for that year. Happened to me.

Before considering MSFT, ask them about:
    1. Their time off policy
    2. Remote work policy
    3. Flexibility of commute hours

Also keep in mind that one thing is what the recruiter tells you and another thing is what your team does. Ask the colleagues of your future team how they feel about the points above.
If you are based in PaloAlto and considering relocating to Redmond, WA, try visiting the place between Nov-March and see if you fit in culturally and weather wise.
