What ops departments pay their engineers most on average?
Support and strategy only, no product or service. If department happens to be aligned with company industry, they're product not ops, and don't count here. For example: -hedge fund quants don't count for finance, since they're the product team -biz ops doesn't count client work at consulting firms, since that's the main service offered ...etc

Are you speculating, or is this the actual pattern? Based on $'s, it could also be marketing, finance, and less obviously bizops
Sales Ops has done better for friends who have moved on in general. The right opportunity that comes for one person obviously skews the results. Those “I know a guy type” of people who base their reality on knowing things worked out for one person in particular
