I am approaching to 50. I have been coding since 25. What is a reasonable career path for 50+ engineers?
Spread your wisdom, that will give you most satisfaction.
I have a 61 year old SDE || in my team ... Who is the best developer we got ... Alpha coder
Yeah we have a guy close to 70 who does SAS and Python. People wonder when he will quit, but he loves work.
Inspiring!
Are you satisfied so far as being an Engineer? Can you easily get a job if you loose one today? Do you have kids going to college? Do you need job security? How about ageism in non-tech job recruitment?
Prepare for retirement with an entrepreneur spirit or provide strong consulting services. Good luck 👍👍
What do software engineers earn after 50+ ? Curious. Most data points on blind are for less than 15 yoe. OP care to share your TC ?
350tc
You have earned enough, sit and do something else. Like Farming.
Teach younger folks like meeee
This. Would love to have guidance from someone so experienced as OP
Move to management.
OP has already rejected farming. It means he wants to work. OP must try Management. The only option. If still no, then only coding remains.
You can stay coding. I have a lot of 55+ at Apple who still love what they do. ICT 5 salary which means they make pretty good money too.
Continue developing software if that’s what you like to do...
I will try to do that for as long as I can.
Better give it all you can now. In fifteen years, you will not be allowed to do the man's bidding. The man is ruthless.
