What tech companies do you consider unethical?

Excluding Facebook, Amazon, Google, Uber and the other giants (just for the sake of making this more interesting, let's agree to disagree because they're multifaceted and do both good & evil).

To name a few IMO: Robinhood, AppNexus, JUUL, Affirm, DraftKings.

Geez. Facebook is not spying via your microphone. There is no need. Their algorithms are that good. OMG ! No one at Facebook is interested in listening to the boring conversations everyone has. It is a ridiculous amount of useless data. Google on why this is unnecessary, as well as inefficient.
Alphonso is what you need to direct you angst against, not Facebook and Google.

    How is JUUL unethical?
They are transitioning people from smoking to vaping and that is a noble cause and a good step toqards reducing the number of people who smoke cigarettes.

I feel it's too close to a payday lender. And hiding behind ambiguous buzzwords about making the world a better place makes it even sleazier. Avant too!

    • Credit Karma Creditcard
What interest rate makes a loan unethical? Do you refuse funding to people with credit that is worse than the credit required to receive your interest rate cutoff?

These issues aren’t easy. Affirm has significantly less competition as they have exclusive contracts with retailers. Avant competes with other lenders directly, and so if you shop around in place with Credit Karma, you can compare offers and get the lowest rate. With competition, things eventually get priced accurately.

Payday lenders try to make money from late fees/ compounding interest, whereas we try to only loan to people that can actually pay back and charge neither of those.

As far as Airbnb ignoring and bullying past city regulations - not cool. But they're not on my list because their service as a whole made a positive impact.

This is why I didn't want the big companies - they're too multifaceted (e.g. Uber.made a huge positive contribution to the world, but they also thwart laws and exploit workers).
