Introduce them to bash or zsh. It’s a big learning curve for some but those shells help
man
Create aliases! Learn the terminal and bash inside and out. Learn vim! If you type the same 10 characters 10 times a day, I.e “git commit” make it an alias. G.cm Watch someone edit code in windows/Mac using some IDE vs someone editing code in vim that knows what they are doing. Sure it doesn’t seem like shaving off 3 key presses here or there would make a difference but believe me. It’s adds up and becomes huge, blazingly fast
- reverse-search (ctrl+r) - learn basic emacs for basic command line editing (emacs is usually the default, you can use vi bindings too). To clarify, I'm talking about editting the text on your command line, not as a general text editor. - look into using tmux and mosh - learn how to use things like sed, awk, grep, cut, tee, find, xargs, etc. and learn how to chain them together. I also find that basic perl is useful for one-liners
