Follow up to "What tier is Apple? (Career)" https://us.teamblind.com/s/XeooZvC7 Lots of engineers migrating from faang to Uber but I found that the interviews weren’t very hard and quality of work depends on team. Considering pay, engineering and benefits, what would y’all rate Uber at?
I think our hiring standards aren’t as good as some of the other tier 1 companies, also the pay isn’t comparable. That said, what brings a lot of people over is the goal and the product market fit. So if the TC or GTFO philosophy is what drives you, Uber isn’t tier 1. But if you want to make real impact, it certainly is. PS: I have been at two of the FANGs.
Interview difficulty != top tier. Rocket fuel, dropbox, and palantir used to have hardest problem solving rounds. A lot of my friend join Google and the onsite only asks at most medium difficult problems — like merge K sorted list. So I don’t think you want to use that as a gauge as interview is very subjective. I most ask leetcode medium question but follow a lot to dig into the thought process. Lots of “top tier” folks cannot pass that.
Tier 1b, same as amazon, MS, apple
Ms and amzn are tier 3. Uber is tier 2.9
re: hiring bar, my interviews were pretty in-depth (comparable to FB’s) and I like that they have a bar raiser round also if you’re fine with partially illiquid comp, the pay more than matches FANG. I received a 320k offer with 3 YoE, easily beating current TC and my google offer
How is it partially illiquid when the company isn’t public? It’s completely illiquid isn’t it? You only can cash out equity when the company is public so how you can even include equity in your total compensation? Please correct me.
Base salary? -.-
Only TC matters Who cares about tier
Target annual RSU refresher at Uber L4 is only 55k, while at fb E4 it’s 70k. Why is that? Shouldn’t Uber give out more stock because it’s private? This is why Uber isn’t tier 1, at least not while it’s private. Maybe after IPO.
Even if they vest over 3 years, that doesn’t change the fact that smaller refreshers means TC flatlines at a lower number after the 4 year cliff compared to if the refreshers were larger, regardless of time to vest.
FB is also flat lining in growth 😂
