I am leaving the US, possibly not coming back again. I have ~3k in my HSA. Is there a way to get the money? Do you advice me to keep it there?
You can use it to spend on health in your home country. If cant use card upload bills
Buy up things ull use eventually like massage credits. I bought 10 1 hr massages and used up my hsa balance. A lot of massage places take hsa cards
If you don't care as you're leaving anyways, go to Costco and buy 3k worth of Healthcare products like omega3 fish oils and pills. And then refund it the next day for store credits or even cash. Once you make the purchase, take the receipt and reimburse it. Nobody ever checks. And even if they do, youre not in the country anymore so it honestly doesn't fucking matter I used to do it every year when I had to do hsa
The fuck
This honestly sucks. I hope some day Blind has a data leak and people can figure out who you are.
If you are ok paying taxes and 20% penalty, you can withdraw the money using the visa card. Just make sure to file it in tax returns and pay the extra 20%.
We tax everything. The only way government can survive.
If you don’t need the money now, continue to invest actively in growth stocks. You can withdraw taxfree or remimburse for qualified expenses anytime in your lifetime. Your $3000 may be worth $10,000 if you invest wisely in some good growth stocks say in 20 years from now. 😊

It doesn’t matter when you took care as long as you didn’t claim in taxes and you incurred the expenses after opening HSA
You cannot claim expenses incurred prior to opening the HSA account
