Doing portfolio review with Facebook soon. Strongest work (from when I was at a consultancy) didn’t make it past private beta, largely due to my client getting acquired by another company and everything blowing up. My best work at Amazon is under NDA and I’m really hesitant to violate that. Okay to show the work from my consultant days? It’s great stuff but it just doesn’t exist anymore.
If you’re presenting in person and not sending it out digitally, you should be fine. It’s better to assume the small risk of getting in trouble for that, and increase your chances of getting the job by showing your best work. The Amazon stuff could be trickier. Especially if it exposes a project that hasn’t been announced. Use your discretion.
I can definitely show the work from the consultancy, that firm ceased to exist as of a few months ago. The Amazon stuff is for several projects not yet announced. It’s all being built, but I really don’t feel comfortable sharing it. Still several months from wide release.
Unless you can significantly censor your Amazon work I would hold off. Consultancy work sounds fine if it's old enough. You might ask if they can give you a design challenge to work on for the week prior. Your situation is quite common.
I'm surprised Facebook asked you for that.
Asked to do a portfolio review? I think nearly all candidates go through it. Still, curious to know what surprised you?
I've only seen it in small companies. Was not aware FB is doing that. What role are you interviewing for?
