What would be the layoff scenario in "rest and vest" companies during the upcoming recession?

Business outlook is great right now. Companies can afford to hire employees and not treat them like Amazon, FB or Cruise Automation do. But when the economy is shrinking, people are not spending more, the "rest and vest" companies would need to change tack. Hence my question.

This is meant for Salesforce, Microsoft, LinkedIn, Google and any other "rest and vest" companies

What percentage / number of engineering would be laid off?
What about engineering centers of these companies where salaries are lower - Canada, India, Europe?
Which orgs would be the worst hit?

Give me your best guess along with your reasons, fellow blinders.

Agree about the last 2. Strongly disagree about the first. Unemployed or job insecure people would not be looking to waste their money just to get off - we live in a world of free porn.

Edited my 1st comment - most people would still be looking to get off, but they would not be spending money to do it.

They’ll do whatever it takes to get through it. Bear in mind that bottom line isn’t neatly correlated with what’s expected of employees. That is: a “rest and vest” company might still have the best odds in a steep economic pullback.
