I've been accepted to INSEAD,a top international MBA program but not very well known in the US and would end up spending $150-200k on it. I'm also considering doing a UI/UX bootcamp at Flatiron school, which is only $17k.
INSEAD costs 150k?!?! Also, UI/UX vs MBA? Extremely unrelated.
It's a little over $100k but with the other expenses I'd probably spend at least $150k
Top private high schools and elite colleges can easily cost upward of 4 years x $50-$60k per year. Networking at the professional level is a small price to pay in the old boys' network. If you don't understand the long-term value of connections, it's probably not worth it.
What's your goal?
Have an enjoyable career that makes decent money. Maybe eventually become an entrepreneur.
That's cute.... I'd suggest you refine your goal to a more precise one that defines who you are and resonates in you every morning. Only then, your decisions will be so easy to make... not trying to be harsh but these 2 choices are so different....
Unless you want to work in Europe or Asia, forget about insead.
Insead doesn't have a network in the US. Also, studying there will not get you work authorization in the US.
I'm a US citizen, but thanks, the network is what's important.
INSEAD will likely open way more doors career wise. Do you plan to stay in Europe or Asia after you finish? A lot of people go there to end up at MBB though. Since it’s only like a year, see if you can delay attending, get the UI stuff done, launch a startup, get a prototype going, and get funding (angel) since you’re talking about being an entrepreneur. If you can’t think of a decent market problem to solve and gain traction with, attend INSEAD. Just know the debt you’re saddled with will probably make starting a business and bootstrapping it harder compared to doing it now. What may also help you is searching LinkedIn for USA based INSEAD grads and setting up a chat with them.
Thanks, this is all wonderful advice. The only caveat is that I'm already 31 so it may be harder to break into consulting as I get older.
That age shouldn’t be an issue. That said you may hate the WLB that comes with that kinda gig. Since like 50% of their graduates go that route, reach out to their career services to see what companies recruit US-based grads for non consulting gigs. If they can’t give you a decent list, it’s a big red flag. The challenge for you will be that US MBAs are recruited for FT gigs and internships in the fall! If you’re away in France or Singapore taking classes, you’ll miss out on that so hopefully they allow a break so you can fly back to the US to participate.
Insead MBA here feel free to DM me.
If you want to be PM at product company then insead is waste of resources
Not true. Many career switchers use the insead mba (and others) to transition into PM roles. True you could do it without bschool but likely a more nuanced path and without the additional benefits of an MBA
IMHO if you go to top bschool (ivy league) then it is waste of resources to work as pm at product organizations

Worried that our top performer is an attrition risk. How do managers handle this?
INSEAD is well-known among HSW graduates and people in the know. In the US, it is comparable to LSE.
Thanks. I've heard you can get a job in consulting anywhere from INSEAD. Would the same be true in tech?
I would find a recent graduating class and see where they end up (company, location, role). That is usually the best indicator.
