What would you pick?

1. Google - not much opportunity to implement projects from scratch, relatively stable code

2. Apple - new project, lots of code to own and implement

The problem is you might get promised about some really cool high quality work but might might turn out to be ok-ish work.

Your survey is what I called a biased one ... so I think you already know what you wanna do. Just follow your heart.

Lol google has way more perks and better wlb. You’ll be miserable at Apple most likely and everything is so secretive. Plus they expect you to work weekends and stuff and no free food. Who cares what project you’re working on? You can change teams pretty easily at google afaik. Also it probably means less work for you so why would you want to do more work?

Disagree with “work weekends” - depends strongly on org.

Maybe but that’s the general idea people on have said in the past. I also read somewhere where Apple tells you to forget about your personal life and that Apple is your main priority

Lol - let me then lecture you about the inner workings of Microsoft.

The comp/perk structure is almost identical unless you’re talking about “free food” or some insignificant shit like that (and I’d take a $10 lunch at aapl over pig feed that is served at goog’s mtv offices any day).

Both companies have (different) pros and cons that is hard to appreciate until you’ve worked there and then worked somewhere else (and i speak from experience) so to make it easy for yourself just go with a higher comp.

The comp difference is only 15k over 4 years. Really insignificant.

Tell that to recruiter? Maybe they’ll be willing to make it easier. I’m just spitballing here. Also if you are junior/mid, it would be easier to level up at goog but ymmv

I don't want comp to be the deciding factor.

This isn’t a startup vs big co we’re talking here and both companies are pretty similar. As others have mentioned comp is the only thing these two companies are least likely to lie about. I’ve been deceived about what it is I’d be doing too many times (including google) to factor in any promises recruiters/hms give.

Apple infrastructure <<< Googles infrastructure. Great if you are building infrastructure at Apple, very frustrating otherwise

Don’t make a decision based on the team unless you have inside info. You can’t lie about TC in an offer letter, but nothing prevents managers from exaggerating how interesting the work is.

Both are good companies. You will be here in a week whining regardless of the option. You can’t predict future or what will happen to your team or product. Good luck ;)

The way you have put this question across, you already know what you want. Why even ask?

How do you know it’s a great team? How long has it existed and does it have good external visibility and reputation?
