- Got into tech 10 years ago as a manual QA - Switched to test automation 7 years ago - Wanted to do more than writing tests, switched to SDET role 5 years ago where I was building internal tools / systems / frameworks for other engineers - Became a SWE 4 years ago During this journey, I’ve been in manager / team lead roles several times (test automation, SDET) What number should I use to summarize my experience in a single sentence? TC 260k / YOE have-no-idea
Damn dude. Your path is exactly like mine, down to the years and similar TC.
Are you guys the same person?
Go see a doctor for possible split personality syndrome
YoE means Year of experience. Everything counts. Add your manual QA years too. Of course you learned things there that you applied in years after
Some of the experience gained in QA role definitely helps, but not all of it. I’m not sure it would be fair to say “I’m a SWE with 10 YOE”
Were you changing your roles mostly in the same company?
QA > Automation was internal, others external.
4-5 YOE clearly
10 years of experience for simplicity. 7 years would be for real coding.
