What’s my market value in NY?

A general range would be fine.

Current TC - ~125k

Title - software engineer

YOE - almost 3

Role - front end engineer, deep domain knowledge in JavaScript frameworks, build systems, etc. Some superficial experience in backend.

Other skills - backend with Node, java, ruby, python

Location - New York, NY (and I plan on staying)

Industry - financial services

Degree - BS in a non stem major

Update - assume that I can pass only leetcode easy questions. More curious about my “bottom end” than my “upper limit” potential.

Serious answers only please. No “tree fiddy” bullshit, that joke is played out.

There’s also more software engineers in the market than when you got your current job, and they can trap rain water in their sleep.

Ok. Basically you’re saying that comp is going down bc the supply of SWE is exceeding the demand.

I disagree bc I am seeing the exact opposite. The TC for incoming TAP analysts at Chase, which is the new grad hiring pipeline here, has been going up year over year since I started a couple years ago. The earlier TAP analysts got pissed, and some left for much higher TC.

Frontend interview usually don't ask too many leetcode question.
I had and interview loop with a prestigious company in Bay Area for a Senior FE role. 4 tech modules - Html + Css + Js, advanced js, system design, one leet code easy algorithm.
That role has a TC range 260 to 340.

it just depends if you want a name brand company or not. If you study leetcode and can pass Google / Facebook then you're looking at 220k total comp. if you get hired elsewhere probably 130-175

If you can pass an L4 interview loop, the lower end of this is plausible

Easy. Your market value is 125k plus 15 percent max for a similar company willing to extend you an offer - other big banks. They usually cap your new offer based on what you make now. Things may have changed wIth NY law on asking about comp of-course. Long shot at tech given your current workplace and yoe, so not counting that

Realistically chances of jumping from banks to these companies are slim without serious prep. I interview candidates all the time from financial services and worked there in the past. Average developers at banks struggle to move into tech space. More than happy if OP is an exception, but statistically speaking I would not assign the tech firm market value here

Anywhere from 100-300 depending on leetcode mastery.

@bbg 3 years of experience would be 150-200 (including bonus)

Whereas at hedge fund it would be 160-275 (also include bonus)
