Can you get by without speaking any Japanese? How does the TC compare for the same level and same role between Seattle? and Tokyo?
There was an AMA about this. Just search on Blind
Thank you... Really helpful!
It’s probably shit, but hey at least you’ll get laid every day
We live in the times of Tinder, Sir! And it's easier getting laid in the United States in general.
contrary to what a bunch of these dumbasses are saying the consensus from most folks working on the heavily international teams in Amazon Tokyo work mostly 40 hours a week. just search the other Amazon Tokyo threads.
I guess I read that somewhere. Honestly, at this point, number of hours isn't much of an influencing factor in my decision. As long as you can survive within the company speaking English and the TC isn't horrible, I am willing to make the move.
You dont worry about radiation and earthquake?
Radiation - people have lived for a long time in Tokyo and I guess it's been like 7 years since Fukushima happened. There isn't an abnormally high incidence of cancer detection since then. Earthquakes - I experienced an earthquake when I was in Japan in 2014 and its just a momentary event in people's lives. Most buildings are earthquake resistant and sometimes when there's a massive quake, they may even sway a tad bit. I agree there's a small element of risk, but it's so tiny that I'm willing to take it.

Worried that our top performer is an attrition risk. How do managers handle this?

Would Meta do another round of layoff?
Man u want to combine the worst country and the worst company for working culture. Not sure about TC I would be more concerned with work life balance
Thanks for that thought, I realize how Japan works like crazy. I have more personal reasons to move to Tokyo.
