No its not. Not even close. You tried to be a troll and failed big time. It’s neither funny nor useful. Sorry

I don't think we have stats on that, but if you join Google as a new grad and you're a real genius it can be as low as 0, 2, 4

I'm not thinking like the actual hard stats, but if you were to surmise what the average engineer at each level's YOE are?

I have a somewhat limited sample but it definitely varies a loooot. But if I were to guess I'd say in average they may have 2, 6, 10. It really depends on your background, whether you were at FANG before or your previous YoE are from outside the US or like that.

I think looking at average time to be promoted is a better indicator, and for that we do have stats, the median is around 2, 3 and 4 years.

    • I call BS on 0, 2, 4. Some departments are run like Banana republics - maybe there ...

In Google Search, average ages are 30, 35, 40+. Most people are near-genius types, all have grad degrees. Not many (less than 10%) make L6 or higher.

Just said 0,2,4 is possible for a true genius that puts a lot of time in. My other response is more practical.

I have several classmates in college made l5 around 4 yoe. So 0, 2, 4 definitely possible

@nocomp, thanks for your post about median promo times. Just to clarify, median is 2 yrs for L3 -> L4, 3 for L4 -> L5, and 4 yrs for L5 -> L6? What about L6 -> L7? Also, this is stats for the people who got promoted, right? So someone who stays at L5 forever isn’t included?

Most people don't get to 6 or 7 and of those who do, it can be very fast or take 10 years. The numbers aren't meaningful beyond 5
