The ultimate test Buffett, who just turned 89 on Saturday, August 30th, 2019, has given similar advice in the past. “Basically, when you get to my age, you’ll really measure your success in life by how many of the people you want to have love you actually do love you,” he said in 2001 during a speech at the University of Georgia. “I know people who have a lot of money, and they get testimonial dinners and hospital wings named after them. But the truth is that nobody in the world loves them,” Buffett continued. “If you get to my age in life and nobody thinks well of you, I don’t care how big your bank account is — your life is a disaster. That’s the ultimate test of how you have lived your life.” https://www.cnbc.com/2019/09/01/billionaires-warren-buffett-bill-gates-agree-this-is-the-ultimate-test-of-how-you-have-lived-your-life.html My poll - if this was your last year, how many people do you think REALLY love you ? Like really really.
Love beyond immediate family is hard to come by
Who says?
I have at least 26 children. They all over me.
I’m surprised that he hasn’t figured it out. Romantic love is a hoax. The only people who might actually ever love you are your children.
Romantic love might be a hoax, but bonding love with your family or close friends is all too real
1. I don't think he's bragging about how many people he's banged. 2. He's got a few kids, some grand kids and whole bunch of great grand kids! (Which is also missing the point)
You all are missing the point I feel. He’s not talking about romantic or family love - that’s obvious. Outside of that, how many people love you because you have made a difference in their lives?
If people love you because you've changed their lives, that's selfish love.
If you do things for others, because you want them to love you, that’s selfish love. If people love you because you changed their lives, without you bothering about what they’ll do for you, that’s not selfish.
Would be interesting to see what an old man who doesn’t have money think 🤔 It’s easy for folks who accumulated a lot of wealth talk about how meaningless it all is. Folks who don’t have it or never had it will give a different answer. I know multiple people who lost their loved ones to curable diseases - because of lack of money
Buffet != roleModel
Ofc this is the mind set when you are old but would he have said the same thing when he was 30?
Ya sorta interesting how whatever age people currently are they tend to decide this is the age you want to dedicate all of your life’s actions to optimize for maximum enjoyment for
