170k for me and I support 4 people on this salary in Seattle. I’m paraphrasing this and these are not my own words, but I learned a long time ago that no matter how much money you have, it will never be enough. If you’re looking for more of anything, you’ll never find it. Stop looking and you’ll see.
What level at amazon? business role?
do you have a partner/spouse? dual incomes definitely help.
430k and it’s still not enough ... so we’re just happy saving 90% of it to retire before we hit 35
It'll never be enough, so I seek happiness elsewhere. Honestly I'm not someone that likes to sit on gob loads of cash.

450K: It’s the bare minimum for a family in bay area.
~600k (single income) for a family of 4. Gave up on buying a house. At this point I am more interested in the work I am doing.
You all need to learn how to budget. ~200 after comps and ex-wife deduction, 3 kids, own a mortgage in the South Bay. Yes, I have a long commute and my kids are in public schools, but we are comfortable. It’s not easy, but we are good.
Change it to short commute and great public schools and what do you come up with? How about if your kids are young and you need nanny/full time daycare? Those large things aside, genuinely curious what you save on budget wise though.
I have a nanny, a damn good one. Took a lot of work to find her too. Just taking into account the commute (~45 min - 1 hr with traffic) the proximity to major work hubs drastically reduces home price. Granted, I bought at a good time. As far as budget goes, I cook for us, I Costco the shit out of things. Drive a reasonable car. Being a semi-single parent cuts back on the going out and partying aspect of things. Short answer, I can’t imagine having even +100k on top of what I already make and not feel 100% secure with my finances.
We are at about $350k TC per year and have a comfortable house in the South Bay and feel pretty lucky about where we are. We don’t worry about money and feel that we have enough to do whatever we desire.
$270k, east of Seattle, no kids, small mortgage, life is good. But house prices have doubled since we bought ours. We are lucky to have what we have.

Worried that our top performer is an attrition risk. How do managers handle this?
Is a house going to give you happiness? I've been renting my entire life, not really looking to buy.
