You know it’s time to say Fuck the Bay Area! That is all.
That's a lot of money
Easier to just make money money.
How about $150k? Take home is about $9k/month. Rent will be about $3k.. other stuff about $2k. Save about $5k/month. Just wondering if I’m doing the math right. (Having kids will eat into this but still would have a little bit in savings?)
3+2+5 = 9...math checks out
If you are young and eager to learn and build things, your math works. When you get a family, the pressure to get a nice house, and good school for kids makes the budget explode.
Why its not enough?
Ditto. My 450k is way more than enough for me, my wife, my kids, and my parents
Not enough for what? Double income, 300k total and it's more than enough for us. I have friends who are single income, probably around ~200k and they're living life king size
Lol living in a shit hole neighborhood isn’t king size
I don't think our neighborhood is shit hole at all.. Close to Sunnyvale downtown, being able to bike to work, seems perfect.. Coming from a third world country, I guess we've just learnt to appreciate and value what we have instead of complaining over 400k TC
Definite lifestyle inflation....$150k bets about $7k after taxes and 401k etc
Single income with a kid? Sure not
You should be able to live quite comfortably in the Bay Area on 400k unless you have unreasonable expectations. Trying to live in downtown SF or Palo Alto ain’t gonna happen, but there are a lot of nice places if you look and are willing to commute a bit further.
