ByteDance is officially fucked
I am working in the data science team on ML projects, I like the work. My manager and team is one of the best I have had in 5 years. No politics, no BS. Wlb is pretty good (9-5 job). But the downside is I am grossly underpaid. If not for TC, I would like to continue working here for a long time. Feels stable. Should I move jobs? If not now then when? I understand it's a personal choice but can anyone provide some insight on how they are happy/not happy for reasons other than TC with a move they made?
Ask yourself if you’re happy
That’s always a hard decision! Might be worth getting an offer externally and leveraging for a raise/promo etc. however don’t leave if your really happy. Happiness/QOL is wayyyy more important than tc imho.
You can try to leverage another offer to get a raise, but don’t threaten to quit unless you’re prepared to follow through if necessary.
Have a look around. Won't hurt
My experience is that my great manager was promoted, and picked a replacement manager who made my life hell. I updated my skills and left as quickly as I could, but I wish I’d been more ready to move.
This.
Move when you’re not passionate about your work there anymore. At a certain point you will say “I don’t get paid enough for this shit” and that’s when you know you’ve outgrown it.
If you love what you’re doing then I’d recommend staying. Especially since you can ask anyone else on blind for amazing financial advice
