With all the hate on here regarding Amazon, which better companies are out there? (NOT including Google) I’m a new grad and want to leave Amazon already. Who else can pay me this much and would be a better company? Im an L4 sde TC 150k. I dont count google because of their crazy interview process i probably wont pass and the mundane work most junior engineers do. I dont count msft because its rest and vest. Netflix is only for senior engs. Does that leave me with just facebook? I heard the work life balance sucks there. So what companies does that leave me with now?
AirBnB, Uber, Pinterest, Cruise Automation, Apple, Twillio, Dropbox, LinkedIn, Twitter, Square, Stripe... I could go on...
These are the trade offs you face in order to get FANG TC. you’re getting paid more than industry because you’re expected to put up with more and produce more that the average company. Figure out which trade off you can live with and go there
Consider switching teams before leaving the company altogether, because Amazon is huge and you may have just happened to run into a bad team. Also, especially at this point in your career, there are more important things to think about than TC and perks. It's better to start off somewhere with great opportunities for learning and chances to show ownership at a broad scope. Amazon can give you those opportunities, and a good name on your resume while you're at it. Then, if you want to jump ship later, you'll be in a much better position to negotiate. And keep in mind that the types of posters you'll typically encounter on an anonymous platform like blind are going the be the especially disgruntled ones. Be careful about taking other people's words to heart too readily without first trying to find less biased information yourself - whether that is by looking at surveys, reading other anecdotes outside of blind-like media, reaching out to other people in the company, or, you know, seeking out a different experience within the company on your own.
FB, uber, airbnb, pinterest, etc but google’s interview process isn’t really that bad, you might as well still apply there if you’re going to prep anyway
How is fb decent though? Dont they have the same cutthroat wlb demanded by amzn?
not in my experience, most of it is a bit self-inflicted because so many type A overachievers work at FB but if you want to take it more chill, you definitely can. I worked easily sub-40 hours a week and got a greatly exceeds rating last half
Microsoft is certainly not rest and vest depending on where you are. My team is pretty chill but if you want to work your ass off on some very impactful products go to azure or teams.
TBH, when you read blind it feels like the only places worthwhile joining are FB and Google. Everyone either talks about working there, have received offers from them, or is in the proccess of interviewing with them. If I were you I'd probably join the herd and go interview with them.
I’ve been eying Etsy and Fastly.
Your own one i guess

Goog Employees Arrested
Why I’m leaving Amazon: The employees are treated like shit. Just the customer matters and nothing else. We are forced on call and we dont have any perks/ free food. Screw that.
Optimize for responsibility and learning. Rest is just fluff.
Amazon pays well especially if you move up. Some junior devs are still making 60k, dont forget that. Focus on what makes you grow as an engineer, not who will pamper you the most. If you feel you have learned everything you can from Amazon, sure make the move. I doubt that given you have not been promoted yet. I hear that good devs who move to google/Facebook (keyword good) from Amazon destroy it over there because they are so used to a high paced high quality tech environment. YMMV.
