I'm currently working for a large fin-tech company in London. Compensation is pretty good at around £60k. But the culture sucks, wlb is not that good, and the projects are incredibly boring. I have about 1 yoe, I previously managed to get an internship at a FAANG but didn't get a full-time offer (failed Systems Design interview) and I don't know if I should try applying again. I wanted to know if anybody has any advice on what I should do next. Should I stay another year at my company? Does it look bad if I leave before that? Are there any companies in London that pays at least a comparable salary and has a better culture? Is it worth looking for jobs abroad? e.g. USA, Berlin Thank you in advance for your help!
Get better at system design and try again. There’s a plenty of resources for that, like the famous system design github, don’t have a link handy, and the “Grokking...” course. TC at FANG at L4, which for you could be 1-3 years (1 promo) down the road could be x2 what you make now. Source: interviewed and had a plenty of offers in London.
Thanks. Im gonna try get back in touch with my old recruiter and see if I can re-interview some time in the future. Where did you get offers from in London? Just out of curiousity.
What were the offers like in London? I’m applying and want to gather some numbers.
Check out 2Sigma! They have an office in London
If you want similar comp in London your only options are: staying, financial services (investment banks and asset managers), quant/prop funds, top tech companies, riding it out til 3-5 years of experience then go contracting and well funded startups
Eh? London has dev shops for F-A-G at least. DeepMind is there. Plus MSFT in Paddington.
That acronym though 😂
I know.. first try didn't make it through the content filter.
