Which university is better for overall long term career growth and getting into FAANGM as SDE and ROI for someone who has already worked at Microsoft and Amazon(YOE:2)? Which university is better in the long run?

Major: Computer Science

Points to consider:
1. Stony Brook allows students to do an internship.

2. No internship at Cornell Tech as program length=1 year.

3. Cornell Tech is very new campus of Cornell university and most people get jobs at startups after graduation.

4. Majority of alumni of Stony Brook works at FAANGM after graduation.

5. Cornell Tech is campus of Ivy league university and the degree is from Cornell university where as Stony Brook is not so well known but Stony Brook is a lot cheaper.

6. Brand name of university remains with you for a lifetime.

7. I want to work for FAANGM and not startups.

I'd rather be a CS major at Harvard than Caltech. Berkeley and GT are the best CS public schools, my wallet would prefer those. However in terms of intra and international prestige, recognition, and networking, I stand by my claim. It is a little "makeup instead of content"-y but it's unfortunately realistic

Since when is GT the best public school for CS? What about UIUC, University of Washington et al?

Yeah, I'd rather go to Dartmouth or Brown over Cal or UIUC for science or engineering /s

Everyone and their mother has had a chance to phone screen with FANG. After that it all depended on your performance during the interview. So it really has nothing to do with what school you went to.

^ This is true. It won't matter if you are from cornel or stony brook if you can't leetcode in 45min. And neither cornel nor stony brook is going to teach you that.
Brand name of the university will only help up to the step to attract attention to your profile. And the brand of stony brook is more than enough for that.

The school only matters for getting the initial interview. After you start working, it means nothing. Considering you worked at Microsoft and Amazon, you will have no issues getting an interview. Go with Stony Brook.

    Cornell tech

You don’t need an internship if you already have experience. Better brand and better cs dpt/engineering. Also lots of Cornell alums at top companies, Cornell tech is just relatively new.

I’m a Cornell Tech alum, working at MSFT. Loads of us in big tech companies, loads in startups too. Student loans are a huge pain but I wouldn’t change the experience I got for anything.

Anyway, in a one year program you start getting interviews as soon as you join. So don’t expect them to help you in your interviews, but you’ll learn a lot and have a great time while you’re there!

Does Cornell Tech help you in getting interview calls ? Which companies come to the Cornell Tech campus for recruitment?

It is unfortunate, but Ivy matters for PM/non engg. positions.

Wow, I’m from Australia. Do young people have to pay 64K/year for Ivy League college tuition studying CS?

Well the parents pay usually lol, or if you’re lower income you get financial aid. Only the wealthiest pay the full sticker price.
