Which company: Qualtrics or Adobe?

I have 2 offers: Adobe and Qualtrics. Roles are the same, comp is nearly equal ($5k difference) so I am treating it as equal.

I value WLB, culure, and benefits as top priorities.

EDIT: I am in Operations. 6 YOE.

TC: $187

UPDATE: I chose Adobe

Just saw a post comparing Qualtrics and Amazon.

    Go to ADOBE.

    Run from Qualtrics.

Corroborated by one of the Qualtrics employees themselves.

Qualtrics - “Subpar eng culture and dev tools”

Microsoft - “Qualtrics is shit. Strongly recommend against it. Amazon is the obvious answer not only for the clout but also I’ve met people at qualtrics and they’re fucking weird. It’s a stupid shit product too”

Amazon - “I once went on a date a girl from Qualtrics... She had extreme BO and drank very excessively at a relatively upscale and subtle dinner. By the end of it, she was ranting about Israel and we had to leave the Italian restaurant early into the meal.

Do all Qualtrics employees act this? I have no reason to believe otherwise, AmazonEng”

I've heard generally that Adobe products/company is at a very mature stage, and that Qualtrics is at the opposite point in its life, for better or worse.

Also heard Qualtrics has great WLB.

Qualtrics tries to reinvent the wheel. For everything. Some of the decisions they've made from a technical standpoint absolutely amaze me at how *fucking terrible* they are.

That being said, the WLB is amazing because leadership isn't technical (and doesn't know any better - some of the timelines I've seen have literally made me laugh out loud in meetings).

Most of Qualtrics are junior resources who just don't know how much better it is outside.

This has to be a joke.
Even if not I don’t see how it’s relevant.

@kdfght, how about working from home once a week, say on Friday?

Wfh on pre scheduled basis is not possible officially. Lots of free food? Depends what you consider as food. Free lunches only 3 times a week, for second portion you need to wait until everybody eats. Free snacks, fruits yes (a lot? Not a lot, but enough).

Lots of people I know work 10-11 to 5-6. In my org no one cares how long you work just get your shit done

The wlb balance at Qualtrics is great. I've spent significant time in both the Seattle and Provo offices and the vast majority of people work 9-5, with a sliding window of some folks coming in later and leaving later. Qualtrics has problems, sure. But wlb isn't one of them.

(I speak only for eng. I have no idea how it is for other departments)

Qualtrics if you want room to grow and innovate. Adobe is stifled, slow, and bureaucratic. WLB for Qualtrics in Seattle is better than Adobe. Adobe is also set up for a lay off. Wouldn’t go.

Also, gotta say if - if you’re six years in, you’ll have a good chance to drive impact at Qualtrics and bring some scalable change to the process it’s needed and wanted.

No easy way to look at the re orgs, as far as I know. Hope you two can find some other company where you're more excited and confident about the company.

No easy way to look at the reorgs?? It’s posted all over internally. Hope you can get better connections and figure out what’s going on.

There is no possibility of driving impact at Qualtrics. Noone has done it, which is why the foundation and everything on top of it continues to be shit. The management style activelly prevents taking risks and driving impact through any significant changes. Management looking for quick fixes only perpetuates tech debt, so you can figure WLB for yourself.

What level has Qualtrics offered? Q has specific time lines for promotion for specific levels and they almost never make exceptions. Many people wait years for promo despite being ready.

I feel like there is more chance for impact at Qualtrics. Maybe ‘boring’ but there are challenging problems - one of which may be their “do whatever” engineering culture.

Adobe is so mature at this point and they make about 10 failed apps for every XD (Edge, Edge reflow, most of their iOS Apps, etc)
But maybe there are innovations to be had in the CC subscription payment flow? 😂

(And XD was a late response to Sketch which has been instantly been overtaken in a year or two by Figma!)

    Congrats on the two offers!

WLB and benefits are pretty great at Adobe. It is extremely slow and bureaucratic though. Nothing gets done quickly. Lots of meetings and PowerPoints. I have a couple of friends that moved to Qualtrics from Adobe in the past year and, so far, they seem to like it more.

I think both companies would be able to deliver the factors that you mentioned. I’m assuming that you got to meet members of both teams during your interviews. I would go with the team that you’d rather work with if all other factors are roughly equal.

WLB at Qualtrics is crazy good. Eng floor is Provo is practically empty by 5, and the Slack (used by Provo and Seattle) is dead well before 5 in Seattle every day
