Which is better offer?

I currently have two offers from Intel- similar roles but one in HVM and another in TD
Intel Phoenix- TC 140K
Intel RioRancho,NM - TC 170K
Current job at GlobalFoundries- TC120K

Concerns-
Phoenix is too hot for us and lower TC

NM- very good TC but no idea how'd be the lifestyle in NM and also wife is worried that she will not have lot of opportunities.

What do you guys suggest? Considering staying at GlobalFoundries. What do you guys think?

Stay away from Intel and you'll have happy, prosperous life. Period!

EternalACT has an axe to grind with Intel. He just trolls every Intel post he can find with trash talk about how horrible it is. He must have been touched in a bad place by Intel. I feel bad for him.

That’s a lie, I worked at intel for 7+ years. It’s a great company and isn’t too demanding on work. You don’t get paid super high, but the work life balance is much better then many FAANg companies

EternalACT was fired in ACT? And he/she left sometime ago....also, don't clearly know what's going on inside now and how the company is getting ready to change.

It's different and better than the negative comments I read in Blind. Culture is getting better. Definitely, not a bad time to work for Intel. WLB is cool and you will also have opportunity to work your ass off if you want to.

OP: leave the negative folks and their opinions behind and join. You will get to see real & better picture.

Intel is definitely better than Samsung crazy politics and work culture. If you haven't get to witness it yet, you will soon. Good luck!

ExternalACT is the same user that was previously called Goldie. He did a bunch of trolling under that name as well.

Take the Grade 8, then move to PHX. It’s you’re best bet

I agree with freshmonky here. Take grade 8 and then move if needed. It takes 3-5 years to go from 7-8.

Yes, G8 in NM is the better one to go.
If you are going to get relocation package, you need stay with same team for 1yr. Then, you can make a move...

I love visiting NM. It's definitely quieter than Phoenix but the people are incredibly kind and the landscape is beautiful. You'll have a lot more of a suburban lifestyle in NM. So if you have kids or planning to, it's an excellent choice. But if you're both outgoing people and aren't looking to settle down anytime soon, then both of these options may be a bit tame for your lifestyles.

I relocated from Ireland to AZ with family in tow, about 8 years ago. Still love it here. Yes the summers are hot, but rest of the year is great. Think of it as 4months hot hell versus cold hell elsewhere. I wouldn't let the climate be a factor in your decision.

    • Intel GWGA84
I was in AZ for 8 years and never got used to the oven that is AZ. And 4 months is a stingy estimate of hot hell. It starts in May and lasts until October or November. So more like 6-7 months of hot hell. And each year, the heat starts earlier and earlier and leaves later and later. Not to mention bone dry air. If you wouldn't let climate be a factor why not choose your "cold hell"?

Wouldn't your higher pay in NM make up for the lack of opportunities for your wife? She could pick up other interesting hobbies that could enrich both of your lives instead of her joining the grind too.

Your dollars go far in New Mexico, but be prepared to pay for it in other ways. E.g. the public school system is crippled, and you may send kids to private school. You are right that your wife would have limited opportunities: The only thing propping up the state is military spending, so all the opportunities are with the base or Sandia located at the base. Intel is the sole exception. There is the gas company and a few remote offices, but basically no industry.

Depends on what you want out of life. Phoenix is really hot, but basically it's the opposite problem of cold states in cold months. You spend summer going from shelter to shelter and you do indoor activities. Much more opportunity in Phoenix, and your dollars will go way father than in NY (not quite as far as in ABQ).

I heard news gf is getting bought by Samsung. If you’re in Austin or Bay Area, stick to that. If you’re in northeast it’s better to move

take gr 8. you can always move around once you get into Intel. but starting off a grade 8 is better compensation. I love New Mexico and think it's a super awesome place to be. but it is definitely quieter in Phoenix. Yes Phoenix is hot but only during the summer. spring fall and winter are gorgeous!

Depends on the position, for NM it's either NSG or SPPD, which may have better future than the typical TMG role in AZ. Think what's down the road in 5 years, and what skill you can learn from the roles.

Intel is not a good employer (refer other threads with Intel tagged and you'll know for yourself)..but you come from GF that's not a great place either so make the move. And I'd choose Intel Phoenix.
