I have an offer from qualcomm in embedded display software in san diego, and an offer at apple as a CAD engineer in cupertino. Qcomm is paying 100k base plus 15k signing plus 7k RSU over 3 years. Apple is paying 110k base 10k signing and 10k RSU. Eventually 4 or 5 years down the line, I would maybe switch into higher level software. The Qcomm work involves mainly programming in C and python, while the Apple job involves programming in Perl/TCL/python. I do think the Qcomm work is more interesting. Is it better to accept apple due to the better name recognition, or qualcomm for the more software related work? Also, does anyone know about the work life balance at these teams? I have given a verbal acceptance to apple, and will need to renege if I accept Qualcomm. I should also mention that I am a new grad in EE.
Also heard their refreshers are really good
Apple for sure, it's in a much more stable market position than Qcomm dreams to be. If you don't like it after a year or so, get more offers. Gold stars on the resume only can help in the meantime.
Qualcomm have more rsu gains potential
Do they? After that massive layoff just a few months ago?
100k goes way further in San Diego. 110k in bay area is a shit salary
Apple 100% will open a lot of doors later.
Apple because if you don’t work for apple, well you don’t work for apple
Apple because it has a better reputation and their refreshers are worth more. 7k RSUs over 3 years is very sad.
Is either company providing relocation? Also are your RSU numbers per year or total amount?
Qualcomm. More interesting work lower CoL.
