I'm a PM with 2 YOE moving to the bay area from Canada. Still negotiating the offers so I'm omitting compensation info, so let's assume both are in the same neighbourhood. Wish - Technical Product Manager - Amazing top-line metrics and growth - Roles gives me the opportunity to build expertise on working with businesses in China, which will be an in-demand skillset in the future - Get to live in San Francisco instead of south bay 23andMe - Product Manager - Amazing product and positive world impact - Role gives me the opportunity to build expertise in biotech, which might be more in-demand in the future - Super well-respected company Honestly I'd be excited in either role, but I am curious what others would do in my position.
Hey congrats on both the offers. I am in Canada and hoping to make the move next year..would love to chat with you about the process and your experience.
Used to work at 23andMe (as SWE) - great place. The product org is more empowered than at many tech companies and has people who were awesome to work with. Depending on team, you might get to work on legitimately innovative things, which is pretty rare. South Bay isn’t so bad, it’s less stinky than SF (except parts of Milpitas). I think Wish probably has a better monetization strategy in the short term.
“23 and me” “Well respected” 😳😳😂😂
Have TC numbers?
As a veteran PM, here my advice for you. The companies look equal. Look to the following: 1. Manager, 2. Role/scope, 3. Do you have a direct team? How big is it ? 4. How large is the company ? Smaller = better. 5. How many degrees from exec ? 6. How product driven.
