No name Company (SWE) - 75k in Virginia(Sterling) Qualcomm (Systems test) - 95k in San diago
Where in Virginia? DC area is very expensive but other areas not so much
Post updated.
SD only because it's not Virginia
It's Virginia, I didn't get your point.
I wouldn't want to live in Virginia. SD is nice though but wouldn't be my first choice to relocate to.
This is a legit case of TC?
Yes, I think I can save more in Virginia even with that low TC not sure about SD. Also being a SWE I can switch to big companies in a matter of 6 months.
Go with VA then, sounds like a more comfortable situation. Everyone I know on the WEST Coast hates it
Where in VA? Pay is also a massive factor
Updated post.
People who're voting for system test at Q, I'm interested in knowing more about the career opportunities later in life like being a SWe at any company, I can always make switch but accepting system test is different career and I'm not sure if I can switch back to SWE.
I would decide based on where I would rather live. TC is important, in that it opens up possibilities for how you can live your life. But itās easy to pass right by those things that actually matter while chasing the next big payout.
$75k in sterling is poverty line š Leetcode and do better. With 4 years of experience, you should be making minimum of 120k there
Really? Btw I don't have any years of exp. This would be my 1st job right after my masters degree.
Keep applying but if you have to pick one take the swe job. Iām in qa and having a hard time switching. Wish Iād taken swe from the start. Fml.
Thanks, Yeah I was thinking the same thing.
Can you get into Cap1 in McLean or Richmond. Are you willing to do cleared contractor work. If you're young you should try to get to NYC, Seattle or the bay area, if you don't like it after a few years you can leave but saving aggressively while youre young will be huge especially if you relocate to a cheaper place later.
Cap1 isn't sponsoring international students as of now so can't get into it. I'm still interviewing for other companies in bay but I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it.
Good luck, hope you get something cool. I'd take San Diego if I were you
Neither. Keep interviewing.
Yes I'm interviewing as of now, onsite scheduled for some companies but just wanted to know current situation if I'm not able to convert any onsite.
