I have 9 YOE in Finance roles with silicon valley tech companies. Top 10 MBA. I'll have to relocate to South Florida for the Product role but has no luck with other product management roles in silicon valley tech. How do bay area tech companies perceive non-bay area tech experience if I want to move back to bay area later? Offer 1: Ultimate Software, Product role, South Florida Offer 2: Infosys Consulting, Senior Business Consultant (I heard project experience would be equivalent to an internal program manager/product manager capacity), Silicon Valley Compensation aside, which do you think has better career opporty?
Keep looking. Both of these sound terrible. If you move out of California, it’ll reduce your opportunities for future advancement, so think long term. Being close to opportunities is important for long term career advancement.
TC please
I'm honestly surprised by your choices. I have an MBA from a top 20 school (not top 10) and my classmates on avg had significantly less experience than you but nevertheless successfully landed offers at many bigger tech companies (Amazon, Google, MSFT, Wayfair, Apple, Facebook, Samsung, etc). Over 25% of my graduating class went to one of those companies, and for the rest tech just wasn't their goal and instead they focused on management consulting or finance or other niche industries. Do you think your YoE actually make it harder for you? If you think the Florida company is doing interesting work, and you think it is a good opportunity for you to continue to learn and grow, I would choose that over Infosys. But if you're not graduating until spring, I would still keep looking.
Not sure if it’s YOE - you think? I wish recruiters would tell. Tbh I only strictly applied to product management roles at Bay Area tech companies. Pivoting to PM or strategy is my goal coming into bschool. I am definitely willing to keep looking, but just not sure how much chance there is given my limited-tech background.
Did you already graduate? If you are a 2020 grad, would keep looking.
Follow up: Infosys gave me a bump to Principal level. Does this change your thoughts?
What’s the offer ?

Thanks. Do you think non bay area product experience will be perceived less competitive by bay area tech companies?
Yes,Silicon Valley is full of elitist. I imagine you’re looking to target the top brand names if you have a top 10 mba, it will be highly competitive and familiarity matters a lot
