      Oct 21, 2018
    • Kaneva Player-1
We do free lunch using Foodsby. Even small companies like mine can offer the benefit. The major reason was developers would disappear offsite as much as 2 hours, cutting their work day short. It is stated as convenience for employees but the reality is it pays for itself in increased productivity. That is why all the big companies offer it, even breakfast and dinner. Next they will roll out the cots and the showers giving you no reason to leave.
      Oct 23, 2018
    • Qualcomm NqAf57
It depends on what you mean by "all the big companies". Qualcomm, for example, doesn't provide free food except for specific lunch meetings, which is very org and team dependent. We do have showers in San Diego though. 😉

52 weeks in an year -> 260 work days minus 10 holidays. Say a good meal and few coffees cost them 20 bucks/day, for 250 working days, it is just $5K/yr. At $40 for 2 meals -> $10K/yr. Most of us are above $500K TC; it’s just a 2% spend.

I think what’s really fun is the interesting conversations and camaraderie with peers and friends during those meals. I would never mind slightly less good or even paid meals if the place has great work culture and friendly colleagues.

      Oct 23, 2018
    • Intel amil
Also, $10k is after tax. Before tax, take it as ~$20k. And, no poll on Blind suggests that most of you earn above $500k. Even for Blind standards, I would assume less than 10%.

Can confirm Dropbox has dropped the ball. We’ve hired a lot more cafeteria workers since our peak and the quality has fallen incredibly. Sure there are often pretty neat meals, but the times things taste incredibly salty (multiple people I’ve seen actually spit out things like meat, octopus, etc because it’s literally not edible) or wrong in both taste and texture (looking at you Kung pao chicken and often Asian kitchen) makes the whole experience much more disappointing. Worst part is there’s no proper way to give constructive feedback, which resulted in companies like LinkedIn surpassing us in food quality.
    Oct 22, 2018 8
    • Good point Chefbrain. I shouldn’t be reading public posts. Thanks for the feedback. I’ll try better next time. I’m sorry for your hardship.

I work at Dropbox now, and have to say this is not my experience at all. The food is incredible. Have you talked to the chefs at all? They always want feedback and they have always been super accommodating. This post sounds a bit entitled. Maybe it was even better a few years ago, I have no idea, but dbx has been the best food I’ve had in my 15 year career
