In terms of job security among the big players? Why do you think so? How was the previous recession.. I was not in the workforce when the last recession happened? I know no company is completely recession proof.. But which are less vulnerable and can handle the recession well?
Least vulnerable: Health care, companies with large government contracts, necessary retail, quality entertainment via subscription. Most vulnerable: travel, discretionary retail, traditional tv network subscriptions, ad driven revenue.
LinkedIn began its hyper growth phase when the last recession happened
Fair point. Traffic would spike.
In 2008, literally everyone was impacted, but that was something of an abnormal recession. Typically, healthcare and customer staples are somewhat resistant. But practically no tech companies are going to be terribly recession-resistant other than maybe those with hefty government contracts.
Netflix. During recessions people go out less to save money. The question of whether or not to spend ~$10/month for in-house entertainment is still a no-brainer
Half of cannabis users don’t work, so I would guess it’s pretty recession proof. I kid.
Microsoft Full credit to the original gangsta Gates
Defense companies. Plus you don’t need to worry about competing with H1Bs. Bonus job security if you’ve got that sweet ass DoD Security clearance.
Uber maybe... In a recession more ppl maybe out of their job and will turn to Uber driving
How about lesser people using Uber because of the highest cost, and trying to use public transport, scoop etc?
Not tech. Boring companies that Buffett likes. Coca Cola, McDonald's.
So, Berkshire Hathaway then?
Visa
Visa has a huge, huge debit card market. Not sure if ppl moved to cash back then, credit is the free cash — until paid for.
This is demonstrably false. Discretionary sales falls in a recession so your revenue falls. Just look at your own company’s quarterly reports from IPO through 2012.
No company is recession proof. End of story.
