White Boy Priviledge

Do you find that managers would node there head to whatever a white man says rather than a minority? Managers will always ask me for proof But if a white man on my team says something, the mannequin would node his head.

Only if you took the time to spell mannequin correctlt I would have believed you. But you didn't. Did you? That tells me something about you. And trust me that doesn't bode well for you.

Apple kRVM18 OP Sep 27, 2019

But you didn’t spell “correctly” correctly 😝

Roku cruella Sep 27, 2019

Eh. Doesn't matter. Correctly is a simple typo , While mannequin isn't. Is it?

OP: Racism and sexism is real, and that includes shit like this. You are a sexist/racist. Welcome to the club. Now go do better.

Roku cruella Sep 27, 2019

R u done ? Really?

WeWork WeDone Sep 27, 2019

Expound?

Uber 2muchblind Sep 28, 2019

It’s very true that racism and sexism are real. We’ve been programmed to think that people who look a certain way or sound a certain way are more intelligent, sensible, and worthy of respect and admiration. White males (followed by white females) are really at the top of the food chain, but at least we’re talking about it in 2019.

Roku cruella Sep 28, 2019

Uber. What's wrong buddy?

Uber 2muchblind Sep 28, 2019

Nah nothing man. It’s just true man, but you know, we’re still lucky to be in America where it may be harder but still possible to achieve what you want.

True. I remember the look I got when I interview at FAANG as an African dude. I could sense that the recruiter didn’t think I’d make it & just faked interest. Not her fault though she did her job right. Next during interviews the interviewers mostly bald white dudes were usually shocked that this African dude could trap rain water & traverse a tree. During the behavioral I could also feel it, but my English is impeccable thanks to my parents for sending me to a good school as a child. I passed with strong hires & got my offer. I still see the surprise when I tell people that I’m a software engineer. During work I try to sound eloquent & work as hard as possible. I remember how shocked a senior manager was at my old job when he heard I was leaving to join FAANG. White boy priviledge is a thing, I know the game but I also enjoy shocking people with my brilliance.

Apple kRVM18 OP Sep 28, 2019

This is really admirable. I lost hope that hard work pays off because no one notices the amount of effort it takes and some people take all the hard work that you do for granted. Do you mind giving some advice? Obviously the world isn’t completely fair and just, and I started to lose faith.

Minorities having to work twice as hard has always been a thing

no

Google IjTG62 Sep 28, 2019

Do you realise that if that guy was black, a white guy would have complained that the manager was doing minority appeasement? There is a very specific reason why the manager is in more agreement with him than you - it’s called Trust. Instead of looking for colour, my advice will be to start working on building trust.

Amazon mmmehhhh Sep 29, 2019

The trust wasn’t earned. It was given solely based on his sex and race. When minorities complain about racism this is part of the reason. The minority could prove himself and they will still trust the white guy with no evidence. Your lecture is tone deaf at best. Fucking ridiculous.

Google IjTG62 Sep 29, 2019

OP does not make it explicit. How would you know who is more experienced and trust worthy? The post in current form is trying to present a single tone of racism without facts. Maybe this what happening in team meetings as well - do it my way or you are racist. As a brown man, I do understand racism exists. But painting everyone as racist is not gonna solve the issue. Single tone narrative will make people tone deaf.

When I've expressed ideas, my white PM is like "We'll consider that...". Then a white dude expressing the same idea after a few days, white PM is like "Yes, we can't launch without that". And I could count variations of this scenario that this happened. I know I've no control over how they perceive my opinion, and such-- but I'm working on how to be better at expressing the words that are fucking coming out of my mouth. (Writing a document and calling it an "initiative" works as well). But fuck... (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

Uber 2muchblind Sep 29, 2019

Should’ve been like “that’s exactly what I said 3 days ago! Lol” and laugh, stand up and walk away.

Microsoft baito Sep 29, 2019

Not a white man and never seen that happening But I guess if you look at everything through the glasses of victimhood, you are sure to find benign stuff
