How do you guys deal with white coat hypertension? I don’t know if this is what I’m going through but one time my blood pressure reading was high that it made me always worry whenever I have to think about it especially when I know this will happen at a doctor’s office. I hope I’m not the only one facing this issue.
Tons of people face this. Go get your BP taken elsewhere like the drug store. Besides that crack a lot of jokes at the office. It’s the only thing that’s seemed to help me. Even that just stops me from having panic attacks at the doctor. Hang in there! Most doctors are well aware of white coat syndrome.
Buy a BP reader and do it at home
I have a wrist monitor and the readings I have at home are in the 130-140/90 (or lesser). If I lay down and take my reading, it is in the 120s.
Food. Food. Food. Fixing what I eat and reducing alcohol, coffee and tea helped me bring down blood pressure to recommended levels. Also invest in a cheap electronic BP monitor and measure at least twice a day.
Seems everywhere I go now my BP gets checked: doctors, dentists, oil changes, etc. Guess that’s a good thing.
Hmm, I haven’t had my bp taken at my dentist and chiropractor. I did have my bp taken at an optometrist.

Google CFO confirms 'large-scale' layoffs (Apr 17)
Happens to me. More than that, I don't want my white coat syndrome (which is totally rational given how invasive, unprofessional, rude, and unhelpful most doctors are) to be put in records/shared with insurance orgs, so I just decline it altogether and invested in my own BP meter.
How can you decline getting your bp read? I wished I could decline. Now that my medical history probably has me down for high bp, I’m very reluctant to try and but life insurance.
You can decline anything you want. You are not forced to do anything in this country except by law enforcement restraint (e.g., you are handcuffed) and even then you are protected from unreasonable searches/seizures, cruel and unusual punishment, and not having a speedy trial.
