Everybody knows Scrum Masters and Agile Coaches get paid the most. Because they're so damn critical.

If there is justice then it should be eng. But then to be fair the question is about managers getting paid, so justice is out of the window by definition.

From what I ve heard, the salary bands are the same for each level. But engineers get paid more atleast in terms of the equity component.

So a level 5 Eng would have more equity than a level 5 PM?

That is what I’ve seen. Note that the sample size is small (<10)

Done. I thought it was common knowledge project managers are in a different comp band. But edited for clarity

If there's a 10:1 eng:pm ratio at tech companies at lower levels, you'll find that the more senior you get, the more that ratio balances out. Across tech companies.
      May 26
    • It’s definitely undisputed PMs have an easier time getting promoted to senior levels

At Google? Are you kidding me? Dude, you have no idea what eng or pm VPs get paid
      May 26
  • OpenTable Meliodas
Engineering managers typically get paid more.

PM’s tend to not have any direct reports at the junior levels.
    May 26 5
    • But op said same level
      May 26
    • OpenTable Meliodas
A first level EM has direct reports, PM’s don’t.
      May 26
    • Yea and who gets paid more? I’m talking about the career level not reporting level. For example level 6 vs level 6 @ google
      May 26
    • OpenTable Meliodas
Oh, I didn’t realize that you were asking, “given the same pay band, who gets paid more?”
      May 26
    • Think you misunderstood. Same level doesn’t mean same pay band since they may be at different tracks.
Levels indicate seniority independent of management.
I guess at open table that’s not a thing and management is the only way to get promoted?

Eng no question unless you’re like a director of PM maybe.
