Instead of going MySQL/Postgres/etc?
Literally just nuke plants and morons
Military, banks and some governments in general. For ex IRS uses DB2
International clients, companies which fear switching databases can lead to loss of data and entities like bank, govt. offices, etc. P.S.: I've heard some banks and/or financial institutions still use Cobol! 😥
Who asks these stupid questions, really? I sometimes wonder how these high TC people working at these high profile firms can be so stupid about business, finance and strategy. DB licenses are the least of any successful organizations problems. It’s not a Big(O) problem. I’m pretty sure few of you understand the cost and risk of database migrations
The last sentence in your reply makes me think you're not much of a technical person. MS and Oracle are mainly used for legacy and backend apps. No new implementation I know of outside MS pays a bill for DB
Companies like Facebook (oracle), and every other big company out there.
IMHO Facebook uses heavily MySQL (owned by Oracle but doesn't generate them much rev). They even forked it at some stage.
Most companies have Oracle DBs floating around. Some more than others: energy industry, finance, defense, aerospace, government, and damn near every HR and payroll department on earth.
Bloomberg does, although there are efforts to migrate to PostreSQL
